My mum used to do this when I was little. 🤍
It was one of the first ways I learned to feel safe.
⸻
When I was little and upset, my mum would put one hand on my forehead and one on the back of my head.
I didn’t know what it was called.
I didn’t know anything about nervous systems or regulation.
I just knew it made me feel safe.
Years later, after loss, I’ve found myself thinking about those small moments more than ever.
Not because they fixed everything.
But because they reminded me that comfort doesn’t always come from having the right words.
Sometimes it comes from a hand on your forehead.
A hug.
A familiar voice.
Someone quietly saying:
“You’re safe. I’m here.”
Grief has taught me that the things we remember most are often the simplest things.
What is something someone did for you that made you feel safe? 🤍
