An Arizona man has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly pointing lasers at U.S. Air Force fighter jets training near Luke Air Force Base. Federal prosecutors say William Wilson pointed lasers at F-35 fighter jets at least 8 times between September 2024 and January 2025. Multiple pilots reported that their vision was affected while flying. The FBI eventually launched a surveillance aircraft to locate the source of the laser strikes. According to investigators, the FBI pilots were also hit by lasers, and video later captured Wilson shining them from his backyard. Wilson later admitted to pointing the lasers at military aircraft because he believed they were “spy planes.” He was sentenced to 10 months in prison followed by one year of probation.
