Throughout the month of June, we have been demonstrating letterpress printing in multiple ink colors. We’ve also been asked if prints are available. Well, we finally have a variety available in our museum store and on our website! In this video, Channey letterpress printed a large halftone of the most prominent part of our state flag, the California Grizzly bear. This halftone is a reproduction of Charles Nahl’s drawing, “Grizzly Bear,” which he designed in 1854. It is Nahl’s depiction of the Grizzly that appears on our state flag. This was printed with a gradient of red, yellow, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press, which was manufactured in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #printing #printmaking
