When it comes to Sacramento during the California Gold Rush, good hygiene was not very common. Bathhouses and hotels promoted having certain amenities but many were shared amongst the guests.
In this video, Aly discusses the two toothbrushes on display in one of our underground spaces only accessible on our underground tours. These artifacts were found in this area during an excavation and give a little insight into life and hygiene in early Sacramento.
