The doctors had wanted to do all kinds of things to me since I was a baby. Cut my finger off, split my bone, put metal rods in for prosthetics. My parents said no to everything - because it wasn’t my choice and it wasn’t my voice. The moment I brought forth the solution about my own body, they were in. I woke up after the amputation extremely hungry. The phantom limb was the craziest thing - I could still feel the point of my arm there, but it wasn’t there. Zero regrets. I was in so much pain, so insecure, so unconfident, that I knew this was the only solution. I had a compelling vision - and I’d do whatever it took. That’s what a compelling vision does.
