Former Federal Reserve chair Alan Greenspan said he was “shocked” that President George H.W. Bush publicly pressured the Fed to lower interest rates, Greenspan told Lesley Stahl in 2007. Greenspan, who headed the Fed under four presidents, said he admired President Gerald Ford's ethics and said Bill Clinton was the smartest president he knew. Greenspan died on Monday.
