Why do watch parties feel so powerful? According to Dr. Letisha Brown, sociology professor at the University of Cincinnati, shared experiences can create a sense of energy, joy and connection, even among people who do not know each other.
“When you're around people in a group, even if you don't know the people in that group, but you're having this shared experience, it brings a certain type of energy and this type of joy,” Brown told Spectrum News 1.
As FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States watch parties bring fans together across the country, Brown explains how sports can unite communities through shared moments of celebration.
