This #MuseumMonday we’re taking a closer look at the Historic Richmond Cottage's kitchen. In the kitchen, visitors can find period items including pages from Marion W. Deering's cookbook and early 20th century appliances. The pages of Mrs. Deering's cookbook feature handwritten recipes for Charlotte Russe, Ginger Bread, Pumpkin Pudding, Mince Pie, Celery Sauce, Wheat Puffs, and many more. These written pages offer a window into the cooking practices and flavors of the era, capturing everything from everyday dishes to more elaborate preparations. Select page reproductions are currently on view. While exploring the kitchen, visitors can also discover the historic appliances that once supported the Richmond Cottage’s role as the southernmost inn in South Florida from 1900 to 1915. The cast iron stove hood manufactured by New York based Duparquet, Huot and Moneuse Co. is all that remains of the original French styled unit.
