For Issue 204, The Beautiful Game
Initially released in 2006 by @douglasgordonart and philippeparreno, ‘Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait’ spotlights French player Zinédine Zidane in the midst of a famous match between Real Madrid and Villareal Club de Fútbol. Installed across two large projections, the museum version of the film accentuates the sensory details of the sport in parallel, showcasing one raw, undecorated cut of Zidane’s performance.
The film will be on display this summer at thebassmoa and at guggenheim in New York City in coordination with the World Cup’s presence in North America. At The Bass Museum in Miami, fans can wear their favorite soccer team jersey for free museum admission, and watch a livestream of afternoon matches on Fridays.
