TriMet’s Safety Response Team members spend their days aboard Portland’s public transit system, expected to de-escalate tense situations, discourage illegal conduct, and provide resources for people in need. But they've long been dissatisfied with the company TriMet contracts with to run the program.
With TriMet reviewing the program’s contract alongside other major contracts, there may be an opportunity to shake things up. Safety Response Team staff are calling on TriMet to go with another company to manage the unarmed crisis response team, accusing their current bosses of union-busting and general mismanagement.
