Rivers of lava streamed down the slopes of Mount Etna overnight, lighting up the Sicilian sky during the volcano's latest eruption.
Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said lava poured from an eruptive vent at an altitude of around 3,000 metres.
Located on Sicily's east coast, Mount Etna is Europe's largest active volcano and is known for its frequent eruptions, lava flows and ash emissions.
