Works on paper can account for thousands of items in a museum collection, highlighting a wide range of materials and techniques used by artists for centuries. But many of these fascinating artworks don’t get studied in depth, whether it’s due to their physical fragility or the sheer number of objects under curators’ care. That's why in 2018, Getty launched the Paper Project initiative to support prints and drawings curators to share graphic arts collections with new audiences through exhibitions, publications, and digital projects and deepen their knowledge of materials and techniques through hands-on workshops. In 2026, we're closing a chapter and saying farewell to the Paper Project. Spanning eight years, the Paper Project initiative supported 500 curators from 34 different countries.
