SCIP met with Seymour Josephson, father of Samantha Josephson, who was a senior at the University of South Carolina at the time of her murder in March 2019. After the tragic death of their daughter, Josephson’s parents founded the
#WhatsMyName Foundation. This organization focuses on educating the public about ride-share safety. Josephson’s parents have collaborated with lawmakers to advocate for policies that improve safety for ride-share passengers. As a result of their efforts, several laws have been enacted since Josephson’s death. Notably, on June 5, 2019, the Samantha L. Josephson Ridesharing Safety Act was signed into law in South Carolina. This law mandates that ride-share vehicles display their license plate numbers on the front.
