About one in four women in the United States will be victims of rape or attempted rape by the time they are in their mid-twenties, and over 75 percent of these assaults will occur between people who know each other. Statistically, if a survivor tells their truth about an attacker, their story is often scrutinized differently depending on the relationship to the assailant. This bias perpetuates a culture of disbelief, which silences many voices. We can create a community where every story is heard and valued by advocating for best practices, education, and survivor care. Remember, you are not alone; support is available.
