Ever since I was 5 years old, I believed going to art school was the path I was meant to walk, but the universe had different plans for me. The first time I watched Pearl, I related to her pain and family dynamics on a visceral level…the gap between her daydreams and reality, the yearning to be seen and loved by an emotionally-absent mother, a sick father, raised in isolation by the cornfields 😫🌽, the feminine rage- no film has resonated with my emotions in the same way this one has.
