WOW.
This is why sports matter.
A few weeks ago, I read an AJCnews column by Ken Sugiura about soccer fans who had been priced out of the World Cup.
The story bothered me.
Not because it was unusual.
Because there are thousands of people who dream of attending an event like this and never get the opportunity.
So we decided to do something.
This weekend, Dave and Marie Marler attended Spain vs. Saudi Arabia.
Edgar Castillo was able to take his son Mateo to experience a World Cup match together.
And then the messages started coming in.
"The entire experience has fulfilled the dream of a lifetime."
"We will never forget these memories."
Those words mean more than any ticket ever could.
The World Cup is a global event.
But the impact becomes local when someone gets the opportunity to experience it for the first time.
Thank you to Ken Sugiura and the AJC for telling the story.
Thank you to Dave, Marie, Edgar, and Mateo for reminding all of us what sports are really about.
