What started as a casual conversation about French wine in 2019 has grown into a powerful movement reshaping women’s sports in Philadelphia.
After a challenge from comedian Wanda Sykes, Alexandra Niedbalski-Sykes and a group of partners launched Philadelphia Sisters — an advocacy organization focused on building a thriving ecosystem for women’s professional sports.
A recent Philadelphia Business Journal article detailed how their grassroots, market-driven approach helped generate investor interest, secure partnerships and ultimately contribute to Philadelphia landing a WNBA expansion team.
Since then, the group has expanded into Sisters Sports Group, with a broader mission to help other cities replicate this model — proving demand, driving economic impact, and attracting league investment.
Their efforts have already led to record-breaking attendance for women’s basketball events and the return of professional women’s tennis to the region.
