This summer saw another stirring charge through history by CHS students led, as always, by Col. Rizzo.  For more than decades, history teacher Sam Rizzo ’97 has led CHS students on a trip to Gettysburg, Pa. and Washington, D.C.  A group of rising seniors toured Civil War battlegrounds and other historic sites earlier this month with Rizzo, a 23-year teacher at CHS who is the History Department Chair and a teacher of Advanced Placement U.S. History. This year’s group toured Gettysburg sites as the 195th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment under Col. Rizzo. Their D.C. stops included Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.  Rizzo also leads a separate Civil War Summer Session History Course which features several trips to historical sites locally and in upstate New York.    Students and families interested in the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked by Buffalo Business First as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” – can learn ...
