Reaching this age is an exceptional achievement for a species like his, and we are incredibly honoured to provide Lloyd with the world-class care that has helped him thrive for four decades.
Lloyd is one of only two white-headed vultures living in accredited zoos across North America, making him a truly rare ambassador for his species. While many guests know him for his regal personality (and those unmistakable pantaloons!), every visit with Lloyd is also an opportunity to learn about one of Africa's most threatened birds.
In the wild, white-headed vultures have experienced a population decline of more than 90% over the past 50 years, with only an estimated 5,500 individuals remaining. Habitat loss, poisoning, and diminishing food sources continue to threaten their survival.
