š¤š The world just hit a medical milestone and it has major implications for all of us, especially Black communities.
For the first time in history, an AI-designed vaccine has passed a human clinical trial. Researchers at the University of Cambridge used artificial intelligence to build the vaccine's active ingredient entirely through computer simulations, with no significant side effects reported across all 39 trial participants.
What makes it different from every vaccine before it: instead of targeting one viral strain, the AI scanned genetic data from many coronaviruses, identified what they all share, and built one target to protect against the whole family, including COVID-19, the original SARS, and related bat viruses with pandemic potential.
It was also delivered completely needle-free.
