I think working on your weaknesses is letting go of your ego. And I have had to do that BIG TIME leaning how to swim and train on the bike. I’ve probably lost run fitness by shifting my focus but that’s all part of it. There’s something more rewarding about being out of my comfort zone rather than just focusing on run, which would undoubtedly be easier. I am a hypocrite, I have 100% relied on the run in my first few triathlons but it didn’t sit right with me. This isn’t to discourage anyone, triathlon is already not the most accessible sport, and I want as many people to have the opportunity to find joy in it!! Ultimately train however you find most enjoyable and exciting. But learning to love the sport in its entirety is a big part of it. The age old joke that triathletes are just average at three sports is laughable
