Victorian Britain: a mother fed her baby milk — not knowing the cow was diseased. Bovine tuberculosis moved invisibly through British milk supplies for decades. In 1877, the Local Government Board found a quarter of all milk it tested was seriously contaminated. They issued a report. Pasteurisation wasn’t widespread in Britain until the 1930s.
