Remnants, a cancer story // A barely visible scar stays the physical souvenir of a diagnosis and pain, loss and misery. For 3 years, the cancer stayed localized in a tumor near my hamstring, a daily reminder at the time through shocks that electrified my entire left leg. Sitting was a game– make sure you don’t sit too close to the edge of a seat, or you’ll get zapped. My doctors didn’t believe that something was wrong. That “ball” I was feeling was “just a pull in your hamstring”. But, it wasn’t. Falling off a rowing erg and being temporarily paralyzed was the best thing to happen to me, because a new doctor finally took my concerns seriously. I received my diagnosis in July of 2017, after discovering the tumor in April of 2014.
