Okay…before you start 🙄
I’m going to address the ‘hiking on a glacier without the right safety equipment’.
Firstly. I obviously don’t encourage ANYBODY to do the same. My friend made decisions based on the circumstances we were in as he was more experienced that me and I highly recommend anybody getting into mountaineering to take up a top course and learn some rescue skills before taking on anything like this. I know I certainly will.
I too am just excited about getting into the mountains and the trek we had planned, we did not actually expect to be crossing any glaciers, we in fact changed the route to try to avoid them but ended up faced with them anyways. So we crossed them the best we could, in the safest way possible, with the equipment we had with us.
Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions in the mountains, and sometimes you wish you had more gear with you to do it. But sometimes you have no choice.
I’m very lucky to have safely crossed them and don’t get me wrong,...
