Sand is dredged from the Gulf floor and pumped through a hydraulic pipeline to the beach, where it is placed to help restore the shoreline. 3. Sand is carefully placed along the beach in 1,000- to 1,500-foot sections and shaped to create a wide, gently sloping protective berm.
