June 30, 2008 On this date in 2008, CM Punk won his first World Heavyweight Championship on Monday Night Raw in Oklahoma City. One night after Edge retained the title against Batista at Night of Champions, Batista attacked Edge to open the show. CM Punk then cashed in the Money in the Bank contract he had won at WrestleMania XXIV, hit Edge with the Go to Sleep, and pinned him to win the championship.
