Most people will never meet the people behind a police helicopter.
They’ll hear it overhead.
See it circling in the distance.
Watch it on the evening news.
But they’ll never meet the pilots, observers, engineers and support staff responsible for keeping it in the air.
During the filming of Ubuntu – acapetownstory we were given the opportunity to spend time with the SAPS Air Wing and learn more about the role they play across Cape Town.
Like so many of the people we met during our journey, they were generous with their time, proud of what they do, and committed to serving their communities.
This photograph was taken at the end of our visit.
A small moment from a much bigger story.
Because the longer we spent in South Africa, the more we realised that every aircraft, every patrol vehicle, every security response and every community initiative had one thing in common:
People.
People trying to make a difference.
People trying to build a better future.
People trying to get home...
