June 29th is National Camera Day! Today commemorates photography, the camera, and its invention. Cameras and photography are very important in letterpress printing. For today, Channey letterpress printed a small electrotype (copy of a woodcut) of an individual taking a photo with an old camera. This cut is from the Frank Cowsert Collection. Below the image, typeset in 30 point Caslon font, states, “National Camera Day.” This was printed with a gradient of red, yellow, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press, which was manufactured in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalCameraDay #sacramento #museumtok #printing
