π¦Ί For many workers, heat is a serious hazard.
1.5 billion workers - 25% of the global workforce - work outdoors. These workers
face health risks from extreme heat and pollution.
Protections for outdoor workers in the heat must include:
π A written plan, agreed with workers, on what to do when it gets dangerously hot.
βΈ Scheduled rest breaks in a cooling area and/or change in working schedule
π§ Access to drinking water, hygienic toilets, and handwashing stations throughout
the shift
π§’ Appropriate heat-protective and personal protection equipment
π₯ Buddy checks for early signs of heat illness
π The right and permission to stop work when feeling unwell
Check guidance that helps employers and governments protect workers from
extreme heat.
