When it comes to resource guarding, guiding them away from the resource via the recall command hopefully switches them into ann obedience mode, and away from a guarding behavior. I’m telling them “I’m not Trying to take your thing, I just want you to come over here” This gives us an opportunity to sidestep resource guarding without conflict. You are eventually going to be more interesting/ important than the resource if you do this correctly. Correcting over the resource can get misinterpreted in the dog’s mind and causes a whole slew of other problems. Ones that could put the dog at risk as well.
