Can violence be compassionate? In the Spiral article “Demon Slayer Opens New Doors to Understanding Wrath,” Ronald S. Green explores how the popular anime series "Demon Slayer" helps us think about wrath, grief, violence, and Buddhist ethics. In many traditions, wrath is understood as rage, destruction, or moral failure. But in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist thought, wrath can also be understood as fierce compassionate energy—an energy that cuts through delusion, danger, and suffering. Through the character Gyōmei Himejima, Green considers what it means to act without hatred, transform grief into protective action, and imagine compassion in a violent world. 🔗 Read the full article in the "Wrath" issue of Spiral at the link in bio.
