Greek World - The Odyssey Part 5. After receiving crucial advice from Circe, Odysseus prepares for the dangers ahead on his journey back to Ithaca. He skillfully navigates past the enchanting Sirens, avoiding their deadly song by blocking his crew’s ears with wax and having himself tied to the mast to hear their song safely. The next challenge involves the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, where Odysseus opts to sail closer to Scylla, resulting in the loss of six crew members but sparing the rest from the whirlpool. The voyage takes a tragic turn at the island of Thrinacia. Despite Circe’s warnings, Odysseus’s crew slaughters the sacred cattle of the sun god Helios. This disobedience angers the gods, leading Zeus, at Helios’s request, to strike their ship with a thunderbolt, destroying it and killing all but Odysseus. Surviving against all odds, Odysseus washes ashore on Ogygia, where he becomes a captive of the nymph Calypso, marking the next chapter of his prolonged odyssey. #...
