Candy (2006) follows Dan (Heath Ledger), a struggling poet, and Candy (Abbie Cornish), a young art student, whose intense romance quickly develops into a shared battle with heroin addiction. As they fall deeper into dependency, the couple experiences moments of love, hope, and happiness that are repeatedly overshadowed by the devastating realities of substance abuse. Together, they attempt to build a life and a future despite the destructive cycle they find themselves trapped in, forcing them to confront the emotional, physical, and financial consequences of addiction. Structured in three chapters—“Heaven,” “Earth,” and “Hell”—the film explores the fragile line between love and obsession, the toll addiction takes on relationships, and the heartbreaking question of whether love alone can overcome even the darkest struggles.
