Little Miss Sunshine (2006) follows the dysfunctional Hoover family as they embark on a cross-country road trip to support young Olive Hoover (Abigail Breslin) in her dream of competing in a children’s beauty pageant. Along the way, Olive is joined by her struggling motivational-speaker father Richard (Greg Kinnear), overworked mother Sheryl (Toni Collette), uncle Frank (Steve Carell), a scholar recovering from a personal crisis, rebellious brother Dwayne (Paul Dano), and outspoken grandfather Edwin (Alan Arkin). As the family’s plans repeatedly go off course, the journey becomes a heartfelt and humorous exploration of failure, acceptance, family, and finding joy in life’s imperfections.
