There is precedent in World Cup history for a player’s suspension getting overturned. 64 years ago, Brazil's Garrincha was to be suspended for the final, but host nation Chile led a successful petition to allow him to play. Brazil ultimately beat Czechoslovakia 3-1 to win the World Cup.
