Records cannot be withheld, delayed, or redacted because of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, even if they involve government officials, public figures, or other powerful people. The law allows redactions only in narrow circumstances, such as protecting victims' personally identifying information, child s*xual abuse material, or information that would jeopardize an active investigation. That means adult men are not entitled to blanket anonymity simply because their names or faces appear in the files. Unless a specific redaction is necessary under one of the law's limited exceptions, the Act requires transparency, not protection for powerful people. If the DOJ is redacting men outside those narrow legal exceptions it is an illegal redaction.
