We packed the house at Metropolitan AME — every seat filled, standing room in the back. Rev. William H. Lamar IV opened our doors with a welcome that set the tone for everything that followed, and our Artistic Director Isisara Bey brought us in and closed us out with remarks that tied the whole afternoon together.
In between, we screened TCB: The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing — a portrait of a woman who turned storytelling into a tool for community power.
From there, the room got even richer. Filmmaker Louis J. Massiah and author Dana A. Williams (Toni at Random: The Iconic Writer’s Legendary Editorship) sat down with moderator Marita Golden to unpack the extraordinary bond between Toni Cade Bambara and Toni Morrison — and what their partnership still teaches us about writing, editorship, and cultural change.
