One of the greatest upsets in motorsport happened 35 years ago. No one was betting on Mazda, but the 787B roared across the finish line at Le Mans to take home the first-ever overall win for a Japanese manufacturer and a rotary engine. The following year would see a ban on rotary engines, meaning the 787B holds the immortal record of being the only rotary-powered car to ever win the overall 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 1991 win remains a testament to Mazda’s #ChallengerSpirit , representing a great deal of determination, hard work and human ingenuity from all those involved in the journey to this victory.
