Gorman may be rural, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good place to run and hide. On Wednesday morning, a deputy patrolling the Gorman area noticed a vehicle pulled over along Highway 138. The deputy stopped to check on the driver. The driver said he was looking for some paperwork and didn’t need any help, so the deputy returned to his patrol vehicle. Then something clicked. The vehicle looked familiar—same color, make and model as a vehicle recently reported stolen. By then, the driver had already left, so the deputy went looking for him. The driver turned onto a dirt road, drove into a field and abandoned the vehicle before taking off on foot. With assistance from additional deputies, CHP officers and State Park Rangers, a containment was quickly established. The suspect tried to hide in a ditch, but he was located and taken into custody.
