This might be my new favorite photo of my career.
Sure, I’m caught in a funny mid-sentence expression… but this photo captures two of the things I love most.
Being his mama. His safe place. (I’m also wearing a necklace made by my other son - it lets him know I bring them all with me whenever I travel for work).
And helping providers better understand the families sitting across from them every single day.
This was taken during the last few slides of my two-hour presentation. He decided he was done waiting and just wanted Mama. So we presented together. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Because this is exactly what I was talking about.
Pediatric hearing care isn’t just about audiograms, hearing aids, cochlear implants, or therapy recommendations. It’s about understanding the people behind them. Every family has different routines, worries, strengths, and goals. When we understand families better, we become better providers.
