Nigeria has joined the International Energy Agency as an associate member, marking a significant step for Africa's largest oil producer in global energy governance.
The IEA said Nigeria has become an increasingly important player in international energy markets, with fuel exports helping ease supply disruptions and rapid growth in decentralised solar power and electricity access.
IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol called the move "a milestone for global energy governance," describing Nigeria as "a major international energy player."
