New sexual assault accusations against Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee in Maine’s U.S. Senate race, are prompting some congressional allies to finally jump ship from the stormy campaign that has defined the oyster farmer’s political ascendancy. One of Platner’s former girlfriends told Politico for a report published Monday that he raped her during an unannounced, drunken visit in 2021. The candidate, who has weathered series of misconduct allegations over the past year, has denied the claims but appears unable to prevent some of his strongest Senate supporters from abandoning him.
