Somewhere along the way we started building a separate little world for kids and keeping them in it. Kid words. Kid tasks. Kid conversations.
Everything soft, simplified, and safe. And then we wonder why they hit 18 with no idea how the real world actually works.
The research points the other way. Kids who get pulled into real work and real responsibility early, around age 3 or 4, grow up more capable, more self reliant, and better with people than the ones who start late.
But it’s bigger than chores. It’s how you talk to them.
What you let them hear. Whether you explain the hard thing instead of hiding it. Whether they’re a passenger in your life or actually in the room.
