This photo was taken the day that we met on August 28, 2010, in Laurel, Maryland. That day changed everything. Michael had returned home from Iraq in 2007 carrying the weight of war while searching for peace. I had all but given up on music. The spark was gone and I wasn’t sure I’d ever find it again. Some people believe in love at first sight. I don’t know if that’s what happened but I immediately saw his heart. His compassion for people, his unwavering faith and that smile made me want to know more. One conversation became a marriage that happened 6 months later. A marriage became a blended family (we gave birth to our son within the first year) and three years into the marriage we became The War and Treaty.
