On this episode of the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Wayne Kimmel sits down with Joe Elsmore, Former Nike Soccer Executive, to hear the incredible story of how Joe first met Mia Hamm during a Carolina vs. Duke match in the early 1990s and immediately recognized that she was a generational talent. At the time, Nike was barely in soccer and not yet in women’s soccer, but Joe saw something special in Mia Hamm — her speed, strength, intelligence, team-first mindset, and greatness on the field. After the match, he flew back to Nike’s headquarters in Portland and convinced the team that Nike needed to sign her. That decision helped launch one of the most iconic relationships in soccer history. Today, Mia Hamm is remembered as one of the greatest players of all time, and Nike’s largest building on campus carries her name. #sportstechvc #worldcup #mia #soccer #shortsfeed #worldcup2026 #waynekimmel #seventysixcapital #sportsleadershipshow #chadstender
