Conservation starts with knowing what needs the most protection! Though Madagascar covers just 0.4% of the world’s landmass, it holds 5% of all species on Earth, 90% of which exist nowhere else.
🇲🇬 For the first time in over 30 years, Madagascar has reassessed its conservation priorities. 🌱 Earlier this year, 70 experts (including 50 scientists, most of them Malagasy) came together to identify the places that matter most for the country's vital biodiversity.
The result was an agreed-upon roadmap covering over 44 MILLION ACRES (18 million hectares) to guide conservation action. This roadmap covers nearly a third of Madagascar's land for the decade ahead.
💪 This is conservation done right: locally led, science-driven, and built through collaboration!
This milestone was made possible thanks to the help of our partners conservationallies, hempelfoundation, rainforesttrust, campaignfornature, and Madagascar's Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
