The Trump administration just officially killed the plan to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. And they did it with two words. When asked directly if Treasury was still planning to honor Tubman on U.S. currency, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: "We are not at present." No explanation. No alternative. Just no. This plan was first announced in 2016 under President Obama. It was delayed twice during Trump's first term. Restarted under Biden in 2021. And now it is dead. The current $20 bill still features Andrew Jackson, a slaveholder who forced tens of thousands of Native Americans from their land through the Trail of Tears.
