Kamala Harris is making moves. And the 2028 conversations are already happening.
Harris recently called NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani to discuss the future of the Democratic Party. She has also been meeting with pro-Palestinian activists for months, including members of the Uncommitted Movement that threatened to withhold support from Democrats who did not take a stronger stance on Gaza.
The meetings with Mamdani follow Harris' April sit-down with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and come as DSA-aligned candidates are sweeping Democratic primaries across the country. Mamdani told a radio host: "The vice president reached out to have a conversation. We've had a brief conversation. We've been in touch over the last few months, and I really do appreciate her outreach."
Harris has not publicly committed to 2028. But she is clearly listening to the progressive wing of the party in ways she did not during the 2024 campaign.
