Designed by Steve Wozniak, the Apple-1 was among the first personal computers to integrate video display terminal circuitry directly onto its circuit board—a revolutionary innovation at a time when most computers relied on blinking lights and switches as their interface. Fifty years ago, Harry Saddler walked into the Byte Shop in Berkeley, California, and purchased one of the first 50 Apple-1 personal computers ever made. After a positive experience in the Mills College computer lab, he needed little convincing to invest in the company's debut product.
