There was great optimism going into the second half of the season for the Hillsboro Hops as they shook off the bugs from early in the season and finished the first half with a run of solid victories. In the home stand against the Spokane Indians at Hillsboro Hops Ballpark, the bugs were back. On Thursday night the Hops dropped their fourth straight, third straight to the Indians in the series. The Hops got off to a good start scoring two runs in the second inning. The Indians took a 3-2 lead scoring two in the third and one in the fifth. Hillsboro tied the game in the sixth with a run off a Wallace Clark double that brought home Carlos Virahonda. In the seventh the Hops took the lead when José Mejía scored a run on a bases loaded walk on Kenny Castillo. Two pitches in the top of the ninth doomed the Hops as Spokane hit two consecutive home runs on two consecutive pitches to take a 5-4 lead over the Hops.
